12-week challenge profile – Selina Steele

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

SELINA Steele, part-time super hero and full-time sports editor of The Sunday Mail, will hang up her Batgirl suit this year and run for real.
“Without my costume this year I hope to shave five minutes off my time,” Steele said.
“Fifty minutes is my goal.”
The keen runner has raced in nearly all The Sunday Mail Suncorp Bridge to Brisbane events over the past 13 years.
She is part of the 12-Week Challenge team, which invites readers to get on board with nutrition and fitness tips published weekly in The Sunday Mail.
For those wanting to really stretch their legs, there are a series of free training sessions for readers in Brisbane.
“What I like most about the fun run is, literally, how fun it is,” Steele said.
“My family and friends often do it and we all meet up after to have a brunch or a barbecue at someone’s house.
“While there are people who take it seriously and run to win, it’s also something you can walk and everyone can get involved.”
Steele trains five days a week, but she is impressed by anyone who is just starting on the fitness journey.
“Something I really love about the fun run is that people aren’t intimidated to take part,” she said.
