12-week challenge – Katrina Lee – Suncorp Bank Team Leader

Sunday, July 25, 2010

SUNCORP team leader Katrina Lee describes herself as a lazy runner with a stop-start training style.
But as one of 16 ambassadors taking part in The Sunday Mail Suncorp Bridge to Brisbane 12-Week Challenge, Ms Lee, 26, has had to dig deep for this year’s fun run.
“I normally train on my own and tend to be a lazy runner so I have really had to push myself for the hills and intervals but it’s been rewarding,” Ms Lee said.
“I try to do a few races each year to stay motivated and improve my time but training with a group has helped to keep me honest and focused.”
Ms Lee will be part of a 2000-strong team from Suncorp.
She is taking part in the 12-Week Challenge alongside fellow Suncorp employee Benita Jamison.
The women have formed a buddy system, calling each other before training sessions to make sure they both get off the couch.
So far, Ms Lee has found some hills a “real physical and mental challenge”.
“I just kept telling myself, don’t stop. No one else has stopped,” she said. “That’s been a great motivator.”
This is the first time Ms Lee has taken part in the 12-Week Challenge but it will be her seventh Bridge to Brisbane and her fifth with the Suncorp team.
