That’s the message from beach volleyball gold medallist Natalie Cook after her first week of training for The Sunday Mail Suncorp Bridge to Brisbane fun run.
Cook and former Queensland Origin skipper Trevor Gillmeister will complete the 10-week training program for the event to be held on Sunday, August 30.
Cook has enlisted her staff to help keep her on the training path: “I actually hate running any more than about eight metres — the length of a beach volleyball court — and usually at the end of it, I dive.”
“Sand is so soft so I am dreading the hard road.”
Gillmeister was in camp with the Maroons most of last week and unable to follow the program to the letter.
He and Queensland trainer Billy Johnstone were constant training companions.
“I can’t do too much road running because of my dodgy knees,” he said.“I’ve been lifting weights, running on the treadmill, rowing and cycling.”
